Episode 2: Matcha as a Trend

Everyone has been witness to the rise and fall of a trend. For example, in 2014 we watched as kale and "Pharrell hats" made it big and then fell off the map. But as new trends appear, older ones vanish.  And in the case of new supertrends, it looks like 2015 is shaping up to be the year of Matcha. In this episode we examine some theories as to why Matcha may be growing as a trend.  We investigate the different facets of Matcha and take a deeper look into how it’s survived for so long and why it can continue this way in America.

Kalen Bergado became interested in broadcasting as a DJ at Whitman College, eventually becoming the general manager of the college’s radio station, KWCW.  Kalen now channels his enthusiasm for broadcasting and storytelling through Loose Leaf, where he brings audiences along his journey into the tea ether.

When he isn't at Boba Guys or out in the field collecting stories, Kalen is finding new trails to shred on his mountain bike, organizing the next meeting for his book club, rooting for the Sacramento Kings, or debating the merits of what makes a good TV show aka Lost.
